Alana Pi’ilani Orth (they/she)

Alana Pi'ilani Orth is a current Ethnic Studies M.A. student at San Francisco State University. They are a San Francisco State alumni who graduated in May 2022 with a double B.A. in Cinema and in Race and Resistance Studies. They were also part of the first graduating class in the Critical Pacific Islands and Oceania Studies minor at SF State. Alana's past campus involvement as a Resident Assistant and Pacific Islander Club officer has helped garner a deep respect for the University's epistemology and relationship with students. Their area of research centers around the Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) identity, with the intention of expanding the field. Alana assists with AA Cares operations and intends to utilize their roles and experiences to bolster Ethnic Studies at the forefront of DEI initiatives.
